How to Get Rid of Flying Ants in Pool after Rain

Do you see black, big flying ants in pool after rain in the morning? These are called swarmers. They are large black ants with pretty large wings about the length of the body that fly straight into the pool to mate with their queen.

They are hard to drown, have no interest in infestation and do not pose any real threat except biting you of course. You will see them in several thousands when they’re active but that’s it.

In my experience, they were active for two days and then gone.

There are measures in place to get rid of flying ants in your pool:

  • Use a Skimmer Sock

These are like pantyhose for your skimmer basket. They’re nylon socks that have elastic at the top. You simply fit it over your basket and they catch crud.

Simply buy a skimmer sock (AVAILABLE ON AMAZON) and use. You can choose to reuse them after scooping the bugs out or simply throw them away. They do a great job.

  • Use Peppermint Oil

Grab a peppermint oil (BUY ON AMAZON) and put in a 2-liter bottle then tape it to a baby round float and tape it. Put holes in the bottle and add peppermint in it every two to three days.

  • Use Pool Nets

Pool leaf Nets (CHECK ON AMAZON) helps keep the ants on the nets and off the pool.

What Causes Dead Flying Ants in my Pool

They’re mostly attracted to the reflection of the sunlight or moonlight, and will fly straight into the water like some dive bombs.

How to Remove Flying Ants

Get a Pool Net and scoop away then drop them into a bowl of bleach or alcohol.

Alternatively, you can use apple cider vinegar. Simply get a bucket and pour apple cider vinegar in it and when skimming top of pool dump the ants in it as you get them. They die real quick.
